“My story is boring” and other myths!

“My story is boring, and isn’t worth sharing”
“My family isn’t really interested”
“I’ve told my kids about my family history, so there’s no need to record it”

These are some of the things I often hear from people when I ask what is stopping them from recording their life story and memories.

But…I promise you that the things that you think are boring are often not boring at all to others – especially to future generations who may never get to meet you in person.

And even if your children appear uninterested now, they will be so grateful to have a visual recording of you in years to come. A documentary of your stories and memories recorded in your voice, sharing your personality and true nature.

It doesn’t take long to forget the sound of someone’s voice once they’re no longer around. But with video, you can capture their voice and so much more.

How your past can inform your future

Imagine being able to view a video of your great-grandparents talking about their lives. They grew up in a completely different world, and lived much simpler lives. But their values and beliefs will most likely be similar to your family today. You may hear about some family traditions or habits that seem vaguely familiar too. As the saying goes, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Understanding and knowing your past can help you build a better future. Knowing the real stories of past generations can help guide you on the right path in life, help you build emotional resilience and strengthen your sense of identity.

Future generations are depending on you

Your future generations deserve to know more about you, so start small but start now.

Don’t ever think your story is boring or that your kids won’t want to listen to it – because when you’re no longer around they most certainly will (and their kids and grandkids too).

Do it for future generations.
